I've been wanting to come here for some time and finally got the chance. This place dates back to the 1700's. It's part of an historic village. At the main entrance there is two stairs and a ramp for anyone who is handicapped. The entrance is a bit tricky from the parking lot. You have to walk all the way around to the front entrance or you wind up walking through one of the dining areas and bar to get to the hostess like we did. We chose to come early. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated immediately by a lovely hostess. ( I suggest making a reservation) . Our waiter came over and he was very friendly and pleasant. He took our drink order and gave us time to look over their menu. They have a nice selection of signature cocktails, IPA's, and Draft beers and wine. It was cold out so I decided to start with a bowl of their French Onion Soup, and it was delicious. My soup was loaded with two kinds of cheeses and a rich broth with a piece of toasted bread topped with two cheeses . To go along with my soup I ordered their Lamb Sliders-4 sliders with tzatziki, red onion jam, and arugula. My sliders were perfectly cooked and that red onion jam was so good. My boyfriend started with their Deviled Eggs-pickled red onion, cucumber, green olives. They were creamy and delicious. For entree he chose their Braised Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie- it had chunks of lamb, creamed spinach, and topped with mashed potatoes. ( it's not your typical shepherd's pie.) It was served in a personal size cast iron pan. My bf enjoyed it and said It was rich and filling. My daughter chose their Fun Guy Burger with Fries- wild mushrooms, gruyere, arugula, and truffle aioli. She really enjoyed her burger. It was cooked perfectly med-rare. We were full and didn't order dessert. The decor is simple and classic, with several small dining areas. There is a separate bar area. From the looks of things it's very popular. It was 5p and packed. Rocky Hill Inn and Tavern offers something for everyone. I look forward to returning
The Rocky Hill Inn is truly a gem! The atmosphere here is incredibly welcoming, it has such a unique and historic feel. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate wonderful staff here, they go above and beyond to make sure that you are taken care of. The staff also offer wonderful recommendations on the menu! We've enjoyed an excellent meal here many times, and our favorite things to order are the disco fries, the BBQ wings, and the burgers! The wide selection of beers on tap and drink specials are awesome too! We can't wait to come back again soon!
George Washington drank here. Probably. The Rocky Hill Inn & Tavern has been legally serving up drinks in this historic town since it received its tavern license back in 1745. Local accounts indicate George Washington probably stopped in to the Tavern for an ale or two when the nation's first President spent several months at the nearby Rockingham estate during 1783 while conducting the Revolutionary War military campaign against the British. (No historic evidence indicates whether or not he removed his dentures for the occasion.) A little over 233 years later, Guy Fieri declared the Rocky Hill Inn & Tavern to be part of Flavortown when he featured the historic establishment on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in 2016. #AmericanHistory Conveniently located in a historic space right off Washington Street in Rocky Hill, Rocky Hill Inn & Tavern features simple, made-to-order dishes executed to perfection that are served by friendly staff. Rocky Hill Inn & Tavern is very popular with regular customers from the neighborhood seeking a great meal comprised of tasty and filling tavern staples in a casual ambiance at a very reasonable price. The menu offers variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pub favorites including pork chops, strip steak, pan seared salmon, fish & chips, shepherds' pie, and chicken pot pie. My dining companion and I shared an appetizer of the Roasted Brussel Sprouts ($12), served with hot honey bourbon glaze and bits of freshly cooked fresh bacon, that was very tasty. I opted for the signature Rocky Hill Inn Burger ($16), topped with apple-wood smoked bacon, grilled onion, and a Griggstown Farm egg cooked sunny-side up and served on a brioche roll with a side of tasty shoestring french fries. Very tasty, very filling, and worthy of all the accolades. My dining companion opted for the salmon burger ($16), a tasty grilled salmon patty, topped with cucumber, pickled onion, and lemon aioli and served with a side salad, which she enjoyed very much. One of my favorite places in the area and a great option for a casual meal with friends or family or happy hour with colleagues. Will be back soon. PRO TIP #1: Free off-street parking is available in the small parking lot behind the building. If the lot is full, there's plenty of free street parking available along Washington Street. PRO TIP #2: The Rocky Hill Inn & Tavern no longer offers lodging for overnight stays, so plan to spend the night elsewhere after your meal here.
The service and the food is great. Randomly discovered this place on a Friday night. Found parking right away, and they sat us within 5 mins. I guess we got lucky? I got the chicken burger and it was delicious. I cannot even describe the flavor since they think it's chicken tikka flavor but it tasted nothing like tikka. But i am not complaining, i loved it and would 100% come back and order again.
The 5 of us came for lunch and everyone enjoyed their meal. They're a tough act to please so that's really saying something. Pleasant, unrushed service. They take reservations. The hostess was skilled. Asked if my party can do stairs and explained the seating. They're in the outskirts of Princeton but about a 5 min drive to Princeton U. Free parking in back. Lovely looking historic inn. Sit downstairs where the fireplace (not working but cute) is. The tavern side is nice with paneled wood. Food was great. Terrific wings and deviled eggs. Smash burger and shroom burger were great. The lamb sliders, excellent as was the chicken pot pie. We'll be back.
My experience started off in a challenging way. It was my first time at the Inn & I parked in back. Not knowing where to go, I walked over the grass to the front. I was confronted with 2 steep steps with no handrail that led to steps that did have a handrail. I went back to my car to get my cane I use for these occasions & texted my friend who was inside. When I got back to the steps she directed me to the other side of the building with an entrance with handrail and steps. After I ate I was directed to yet another door that led right to the parking lot with a ramp. I then saw there was a handicapped entrance sign. I wish there had been a sign at the front pointing me there. It was an unpleasant start for my lunch. The restaurant is very nice with good service & an interesting menu. We shared a delicious baby arugula salad with beets and goat cheese. We also shared Buffalo meatballs and lamb sliders. Both were delicious, but we found it odd that you had to really appear the meatballs because they were so hard on the outside. They're were very tasty, though. The lamb sliders were delish. I think I would go back again. Hopefully the handicapped entrance will be better marked for newcomers.
Came here 11 years ago. Loved it. Came back recently. Was seated immediately. Beautiful inside. Classic American pub with fireplaces and wood. Great service. Pumpkin pie cocktail was delicious and strong. Food arrived quickly. All delicious. The Buffalo chicken meatballs were the star of the show. The slaw was house made and unique. The chicken tender. All covered in classic Franks hot sauce. The mutha clucka sandwich is super unique and well worth a try. A ground chicken burger covered in tikka Indian seasoning. The fries are lightly seasoned with herbs. I tried the fish and chips which I normally don't eat but I tried a bite and could tell it was well made. It was crispy light flaky and tender.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Rocky Hill Inn yesterday. I have wanted to try it since the DDD episode. I suggested it to my friend, I was so glad I did! The decor is so homey and inviting. Our server was lovely. Her name escapes me but, that is not a reflection on her. My brain! We ordered some seasonal drinks. They arrived quickly and were really tasty. The blood orange martini was one of the best I have had. The Washington Berry, sweet and yummy. Then, the food. Oh my, the food! The Disco Fries are to die for! The short ribs are so good and the gravy is really good. the thing that makes them so good, the onion jam! That natural sweetness on the salty savory fries, amazing! The Fried Green Tomatoes are served with tender lobster that is perfectly cooked. The Pot Pie, delish! The Fish and Chips, the portion mis huge and so perfectly prepared. I can't wait to visit again!
Not sure why I waited so long to try this place but glad I finally got around to it. Warning: make reservations or be prepared to wait on the weekends. We arrived an hour before our reservation and enjoyed some drinks at the bar. Speaking of, be prepared to stand in a rather small, crowded space. But drinks help you forget about that. I tried the grapefruit cocktail and they certainly didn't water that drink down. Next up, the main event! We started with the pork belly fries which were tasty and perfect for sharing. I got the burger with short rib which was delicious. The service was fairly quick and friendly; honestly I was shocked they didn't rush us out considering it was nearing closing time. I'd return to try more burgers but I'd prefer lunch or a weekday since parking here is very limited with barely any street parking in sight.
